Magic is sometimes very close to nothing at all

I am so deeply passionate about football it is beyond me when people systematically refuse to see the beauty of it. I do understand why people reject the competition as a whole (the money, the violence, the outrageous media coverage, etc.), but the complexity of the game itself, just like every other sport or art, is something you can’t just ignore.

And sadly, not so many have theorized about football. Jean-Luc Godard (who was contacted by Arte to shoot the 2006 World Cup) once praised its cinematographic qualities, every four years politics and sociologists talk about its power of social integration, but I hardly haven’t had such a complete experience as with the movie “Zidane: a 21st century portrait, where theories, art, emotions, the essence of the sport, and Zidane —the man who best personifies football— mix into a truly wonderful piece of art.

I was gonna write about it, but Dan Hill over at City of Sound has written the best possible article on it. So here you go: don’t miss it, it’s a great read, even if you haven’t seen the movie.

Es un peliculón. El dire de foto (que es mi favorito Darius Khondji) al parecer experimentó con bastantes ópticas, lo recuerdo como un sueño, la música de mogwai y las imágenes brutales de zidane. Sí sí. Me encanta este post!
